Where PROHEAR earmuffs go

Electronic earmuffs at a shooting range

Range and field

Hear the range officer, not the shot

Electronic muffs raise voices and cut off the shot, so you keep them on between strings. Indoors, wear foam plugs underneath, as NIOSH recommends for firing ranges.

Shooting earmuffs

Bluetooth hearing protection on a jobsite

Jobsite and shop

A full shift with music, not a full dose of noise

Bluetooth and AM/FM radio muffs play inside a sealed cup. You hear your playlist at a low volume while the saw stays outside.

Work earmuffs

Passive earmuffs for mowing

Yard

The mower is louder than it sounds

A mower runs between 80 and 100 dB on CDC's scale. The passive 038 folds into a drawer and goes on in seconds, no battery to forget.

Earmuffs for mowing

Kids earmuffs in bright colors

Fireworks, races, games

Small cups for small ears

Pediatricians advise earmuffs rather than plugs for young children. The 032 comes in more colors than any other line we make, so each child can have their own.

Kids ear protection

Storm season

Ear muffs made for dogs

Three sizes, foam or gel cushions, and straps that hold the cups over the ear base. Introduce them in calm time, days before the fireworks.

What the noise rating on the box means

The NRR comes from a lab test that the EPA requires on every hearing protector sold in the US. On a real head you get less: OSHA subtracts 7 dB when noise is measured in dBA, and NIOSH now recommends checking the fit of each wearer.

Here is where the PROHEAR lineup sits on that scale.

Electronic shooting earmuffs

Microphones on the cups raise voices and range commands, and the circuit cuts off the shot before it reaches the speaker. Pick AAA power or a built-in battery, and gel pads if you shoot in glasses.

7 models

Bluetooth earmuffs

Pair your phone, keep the volume low and let the cups do the blocking. The 037 and 039 run on Bluetooth 6.0, the 033 adds AM/FM radio, the 030 adds hear-through for the range.

5 models

Radio earmuffs

The game or the news in the cups, no phone needed. The 027 tunes AM and FM with a display on the cup; the 033 adds Bluetooth and stores ten AM and ten FM presets.

2 models

Passive earmuffs

A sealed cup and foam, nothing to switch on. The slim 016 leaves room for a rifle stock, the 038 folds into a drawer by the mower, and the 032 comes in small sizes and many colors for kids.

3 models

Gel ear pads

Replace flat foam with gel that molds around your glasses. GEP01 fits most 3M PELTOR headsets, GEP02 the Howard Leight Impact Sport and our own 030, 066 and 016, GEP03 and GEP07 fit Walker’s muffs.

4 models

2-pack earmuffs

Two pairs in one order, for a shooting partner or a second car. The 2-pack is an option on the 016, the 066, the 030, the 037 and the radio muffs; pick it on the product page.

How to choose PROHEAR earmuffs in six questions

Answer these before you pick from the PROHEAR selection by color.

  1. How loud is your noise?

A gunshot, a chainsaw and a mower are different jobs. Find yours in our NRR guide and work back to the rating you need.

  2. Do you need to hear people?

If yes, electronic muffs raise voices and cut off loud bangs. If not, passive muffs need no power.

  3. Do you want music or calls?

Bluetooth muffs pair with your phone; radio muffs need no phone at all.

  4. Do you wear glasses?

Pick gel cushions, which seal around the temple arms. NIOSH notes that eyewear can break a muff’s seal.

  5. What powers it?

No battery, two AAA cells or a built-in battery charged over USB. Pick the one you will keep up with.

  6. Whose head is it?

Kids and youth muffs have smaller cups and bands; dog muffs come in three sizes.

PROHEAR earmuffs in a row

Since 2010

PROHEAR: hearing protection for 16 years

PROHEAR has made hearing protection since 2010: earmuffs first, then the pads, covers and radio add-ons that keep them working. Today the PROHEAR catalog runs from passive muffs to electronic, Bluetooth, radio, kids and dog lines, and every model shows its noise rating first.

About PROHEAR

Questions about PROHEAR hearing protection

The short answers. The guides go further.

Which PROHEAR earmuffs should you buy for shooting?

Electronic if you shoot with others and need to hear commands; passive if you want nothing to charge. Indoors, NIOSH recommends earplugs under either. The shooting guide compares them.

What does the NRR on PROHEAR earmuffs mean for you?

It is the lab rating the EPA requires on the package. On a real head you get less; OSHA subtracts 7 dB when noise is measured in dBA. NRR explained walks through it.

Where can you buy PROHEAR hearing protection?

Every product page has a buy button that opens our retail partner, where you pay and where delivery and returns are handled at checkout.

Do PROHEAR earmuffs work with glasses?

Yes, with the temple arms tucked under the cushion. Gel cushions seal better around them; several of our lines come with a gel option, and GEP02 pads fit our 030, 066 and 016.

Does PROHEAR make ear protection for kids and dogs?

Yes. The 032 kids earmuffs are passive and come in many colors, the youth electronic muffs fit young shooters, and the dog ear muffs come in three sizes.

Can you replace the pads on PROHEAR earmuffs?

Yes. Each pad page names the muffs it fits, ours and other makers’, and the product pages of our muffs list the pads that fit them.
